Preferred Qualifications:

 

  1. Possesses or qualifies for a Virginia License to teach with specific endorsements in the teaching areas to which assigned.
  2. Possesses knowledge and skills in the assigned teaching area(s). 
  3. Possesses sufficient experience (as determined by Principal and Athletic Director) in coaching football at the high school level.
  4. Demonstrates sufficient knowledge of Virginia High School League (VHSL) rules and regulations to ensure that the football team and football games are operated according to VHSL rules and regulations.
  5. Exhibits the physical ability to effectively perform the various responsibilities of the job.

    Performance Responsibilities:

     1. Recommends assistant coaches to the Principal and Athletic Director (AD).

     2. Assigns assistant coaches, with Principal and AD approval, to his/her specific responsibilities.

     3. Conducts a pre-season team meeting for athletes and parents before first day of practice.

         Explains team rules, dangers in the sport, criteria for determining who makes the team,

         and when cuts are to be made, etc.     

     4. Appoints student manager and assign duties.

     5.  Maintans an optimal number of students on the team roster.

     6.  Develops a practice schedule with the Athletic Director's approval.

     7.  Confirms seasonal schedule and transportation need with Athletic Director.

     8.  Provides supervision to student athletes from the beginning of practice until the last student

          has left the practice site.

     9   Demonstrates and emphasize appropriate and safe techniques for football.

    10. Retains a copy of each student's physical form at practice seesions and at contest in

          preparation for emergencies.

    11. Implements a student code of conduct that is consistent with school policies of the Wythe

          County School Board.

    12. Provides the Athletic Director with a complete roster at least on week prior to the

          first scheduled contest.

    13. Cares for student's injuries and submits accident reports to the principal's office.

    14. Inventory all equipment and uniforms befor ethe season and at the end of the sport season

          and submits a copy to the Athletic Director.

    15. Issue equipment and uniforms to student.

    16. At the end of the season, submit a report to the Athletic Director with the season's record, list

          of awards and recognition, special honors, inventory, and a budget request and equipment and

          uniform needs for the next season.

    17. Evaluates coaching assistant(s) and submits the evaluation form to the Athletic Director.

    18. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Principa that

          involves football.
